This was one of the best trips I took in a long long time. I live in Oaxaca and have been to the sierra mixe before , but this was something special. We visited a sacred mountain and small communities , we connected with the locals in a genuine way and our guides were gracious , knowledgeable and kind. A beautiful experience that is highly recommended !!!

In Unión Turistica Nación Mixe, they received us as family, from the very first contact via Whatsapp with Uriel, always willing to help us reach our special requirements, we would like to point out that Uriel and Don Honorio Alcántara always look after every single step that we took the moment we arrived to the beautiful town of Totontepec, the food from the cuisine of Aunt Josefina, the lodging, the warmth of the villagers and the sweet sound of the Mixe Language, everything made our climbing to the sacred mountain of Zempoaltepetl, we feel really honored that the Mountain and its guardians (physical and spiritual) allowed us to fulfill our job, furthermore that we climbed the Mountain twice, it is a beautiful walk in the clouds, there´s no purest air in Oaxaca than in the Mountains of the Sierra Mixe. To meet Abuelita Juanita, her kitchen, her blessed healing hands, to receive healing in her Temazcal, to be able to soak into the Cascade, everything has made these trips to the Zempoaltepetl so whimsical. We would like to thank every single participant of Union Turistica Nación Mixe, for making these trips posible.

MORE ABOUT THE MIXE REGION

The mixe region is located in the northeast of the state of Oaxaca and has amazing landscapes, cloud forests, rivers and breathtaking waterfalls.

The inhabitants of the Sierra Mixe are known as "the never conquered" because of the resistance that our ancestors opposed to the aztec, zapotec and spanish invasions.
